What are lymphocytes?

A mildly high lymphocyte count after a recent infection is usually harmless and resolves on its own. High lymphocytes become more concerning when the elevation is persistent, very high, or paired with other red flags. Specifically, clinicians pay closer attention when:

  • The count stays elevated for more than about a month with no clear explanation

  • Other blood lines are abnormal — low red cells (anemia) or low platelets
