The start of a new year can easily feel overwhelming. So many resolutions, so much peer pressure, too many new diets, not enough support. We feel you.
Parsley Health Founder and CEO Dr. Robin Berzin helped kick off 2017 with a discussion about how to take your health to the next level in the new year with Follain Soho, Sustain Natural, The Simply Co. It was an incredible talk with inspiring people—exactly what we needed to kickstart our year.
Don’t worry if you didn’t make it to the event. There will be plenty more. We took notes for you. Here’s Dr. Berzin’s three actionable tips to live well in 2017:
- Connect With Your Community.
One of our greatest health resources is the company we keep. Take a look at the people you interact with regularly: From real life to Facebook friends, these interactions are social determinants of health. Are you inspired by your friend’s commitment to exercise? Curious about someone’s healthy diet? Engage them! It’s an easy—and fun—way to be healthier.
- Avoid “Carbage”.
Carbs. Sugar. You know the drill. We’re surrounded by processed food and sometimes, it seems like the easiest thing to reach for to curb hunger. Working hard to avoid them is easier when you know what to look for: aim for no more than 10g sugar in one sitting, with 20-25g as your total target for the day.
- Take a Look at Your Tech Relationship.
Did you know the average American spends 9-11 hours looking at screens every day? Our brains are so bombarded by information these days, they’re getting confused by the state of emergency we’re putting them in. Hit your brain’s reset button with a “screen free 30”—30 minutes free of any type of tech—before bedtime. It will give your sympathetic nervous system a chance to unwind (and allow you time for that bath!).
