How We’re Rebuilding Primary Care

We have exciting news to share today — we’ve raised $10 million to help us expand and transform health care.

We are thrilled to officially announce this round of funding led by top venture capital fund FirstMark Capital and joined by leaders across health care, wellness, and today’s top consumer brands. The list includes Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine Director Dr. Mark Hyman and the founders of companies including Casper, Warby Parker, Flatiron Health, Bumble and WTRMLN Water.

Since launching Parsley Health New York as the first and only medical practice live in a WeWork space less than two years ago, we’ve expanded to Los Angeles and San Francisco, launched our ultimate physical The Parsley Assessment, and built our proprietary health tracker, the Parsley Symptom Index (PSI), which is the first ever clinical health score designed for the 18-50 year old population, to help our members track how they feel and share it with their doctors in real time.

We’ve helped our members save $100,000s of dollars in unnecessary specialty care, prescription drugs, and ER visits. We have reduced prescription drugs by 7x compared to regular primary care doctors, and our data shows that we help resolve or significantly improve conditions like IBS, eczema, PMS, and insomnia by 80-90%. Read one of our amazing member stories here.

We’ve been lauded on The Today Show, in Business Insider, and The Los Angeles Times, among many others.

And we are only just getting started.

“Parsley Health promises to scale personalized primary care in a way that seemed impossible before. They’re truly leading the way when it comes to integrating cutting-edge technology with a root-cause approach to make preventative care more accessible than ever.”

Our momentum.

Since the beginning, our goal has been to rebuild primary care and provide every American with the latest in medical testing, technology, and nutrition, thereby lowering the burden of chronic disease and health care costs, and improving the user experience in health care.

How Parsley Health has transformed primary care.

1. By taking a root-cause approach to medicine.

At Parsley Health our physicians are not only certified in internal medicine, family medicine or pediatrics. On top of that, they are trained in functional health, which means they are deeply educated on how to use nutrition, nutraceutical supplements, proven lifestyle change modalities, and thousands of in-depth biomarker testing from the microbiome to hormones to genomics to help identify and treat the true cause of symptoms.

In a world where 86% of health care costs are driven by chronic lifestyle-driven disease, it’s not enough to just prescribe another drug that band-aids the symptoms. Your doctor should go deeper —be it a cardiovascular disease, diabetes, a hormone imbalance, or a GI condition— to help you thrive. At Parsley Health, this approach is included as part of your primary care.

2. By building a digital platform the likes of which health care has never seen.

Parsley’s platform makes healthcare more efficient, modern, and enjoyable for both patients and providers. From radically different backend services to 24/7 patient access to all labs, notes, and health care data, to tracking outcomes in real time, technology is the backbone of Parsley Health. All of our members enjoy unlimited direct messaging with their health team and a suite of exclusive perks and partnerships that make it easy for them to live healthier lives.

3. By providing care through a unique membership model.

Parsley Health members pay a monthly subscription fee, which can also be paid annually at a discount. This unique model makes personalized primary care accessible to more people than ever before while allowing us to innovate and iterate on our care in a way that is impossible inside the current health care system. This model also means we are aligned with members – we do well when they do well, in contrast to the traditional system, which is structured to reward more people staying sick, rely on chronic drugs, and require repeat visits.

4. By embedding health coaching into medicine.

Certified, highly trained health coaches are central members of each members’ health care team. With 70% of diseases in America being chronic and lifestyle-driven, our health coaches support every patient to put into place the nutrition and lifestyle changes prescribed by their doctor. Research shows people who work with a coach reach their goals 2x as often. At Parsley, health coaching is free and included in your membership – making it seamless for our members to take advantage of their expertise and support.

5. By saving our members money.

Parsley Health saves money by reducing the need for specialist appointments and prescriptions, saving our members hundreds of thousands of dollars. In addition, our membership model means there are zero copays. And while we are independent of insurance, you can use your FSA or HSA account to pay for your membership, saving on average 30%, and get reimbursed if you have out-of-network benefits, according to your plan.

Meet the doctor with $0 co-pays.

What’s next for Parsley Health?

Over the next few months, we’ll have more exciting announcements to share, from growing our team to new digital offerings and more. Make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter and follow us on Instagram and Facebook to keep up to date.

Every day I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of a team that is building a new health care system in America — the kind we truly need.

I also want to share my deep gratitude for our amazing members, early investors, and friends who have supported us along the way. Thank you for believing in us from the start! You have helped us grow into what we are today. We can’t wait to dive into this next phase of growth with you.
