Last weekend I had the honor of attending MindBodyGreen’s Revitalize conference at Miraval Resort in Arizona.
It’s an extraordinary event attended by people from all sides of health and wellness – from doctors to chefs to tech developers to yoga teachers – and I had a blast.
Every person I met was inspiring not only because of what they are doing in the world but also because of their dedication to helping all of us live more conscious, happy, and vital lives.
I highly recommend watching all the talks from the weekend online to see what I mean – but I’ve also compiled some of my favorite quotes that have left me buzzing, inspired, and fascinated.
My Top Quotes from MindBodyGreen Revitalize Conference:
On personal growth: Make one choice a day to improve something about yourself and that will change everything. Start every day with a forgiveness practice and a gratitude practice. – Dave Asprey, founder of the Bulletproof Diet and Bulletproof coffee.
On money: Spend money on experiences, time and people in your community – then money can buy happiness. Michael Norton PhD, Harvard University
On sex: When people experience difficulty with sex it’s usually not because there isn’t enough stimulation hitting the gas peddle, it’s usually because there is too much – stress, shame, discomfort with their body, a lack of feeling safe, disconnection from their partner – hitting the breaks. Emily Nagorski, PhD, Smith College.
On meditation: Taking a deep breath is the simplest way to change your state of mind. – Neema Moraveji PhD, founder of Spire.io, the first wearable that tracks your breathing.
On genetics: One soda a day shortens your telomeres, the caps on the ends of your DNA that protect you from aging, and breast feeding for at least the first six weeks has the biggest impact on lifetime telomere length. – Janet Wojcicki, PhD UCSF genetics researcher.
On the mind: Only humans create a virtual reality with words. Learn to recognize the story in your head as just a story. Darrah Westrup, PhD, author.
On food: Today food-like substances rapidly appear before us filled with sugar laden calories. We have gone against nature. To thrive in the future we have to look to the past. Real food heals. – Seamus Mullen, Chef, founder of Tertulia in NYC, who cured his Rheumatoid Arthritis with functional medicine.
On shame: You have to own your story with honesty and honor. You can’t try to stuff it away or accept shame or stigma. – Penelope Draganic, who lost her husband to suicide.
On body image: Every single one of us is a role model. And social media is not a forum to attack people with negative comments or shame. We are teaching our youth that it is ok not to love yourself. – Kathryn Budig, celebrity yoga teacher who was publicly criticized for her body.
