We’re all busy – I’m a mom, an entrepreneur, a student…and quite honestly, I hate baths. But despite my busy life, I’m able to practice self-care every second of every day, because it’s not about bubble baths and bouquets for me. For me, self-care is about taking care of myself on a mental and emotional level. When I prioritize my mental and emotional well-being, taking care of myself on a physical level becomes much easier.
This is what self-care beyond the bubble bath looks like:
Setting boundaries (and keeping them) is one of the best things you can do for yourself – physically and emotionally. Saying yes to everything will leave you feeling over-committed, tired and stressed, none of which are good for your health. You’re human, and you have limits. Know what those limits are and say no when necessary.
Maintain Supportive Relationships
We need connections with others in order to thrive.
It’s easy to neglect our relationships when life gets tough, but staying connected to friends and family who love and support you will nourish you on an emotional level. Instead of shutting people out, invite them in.
Ask for Help
You can do it all, but you can’t do it all by yourself.
Asking for help can be hard, because many of us equate it with failure, but in reality asking for help from the right people can help to ensure your success – it will keep you from feeling burnt out and stressed. It also does wonders for your sanity!
Self-care is a conscious choice. A choice that you make to nourish yourself on all levels: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. It’s a choice to be the absolute best that you can be for yourself, which makes you better for those around you. Take it beyond the bubble bath and practice it every minute of every day – your mind, body and spirt will thank you.
