We’re incredibly excited to have Dr. Tiffany Lester join the Parsley Health family as our Medical Director in San Francisco.

Dr. Tiffany is an internal medicine physician with specialized training in functional medicine, acupuncture, and nutrition. She also writes for leading wellness publications including The Huffington Post, MindBodyGreen, and Thoughtfully Magazine.

Today, we sit down with our newest San Francisco physician, Dr. Tiffany Lester to learn more about why she became a doctor, her areas of interest, and her take on the current state of healthcare in America.

Q: Why did you become a doctor?

Being a doctor is one of the only professions that combine my favorite things into one—my love for nutrition and healthy eating, researching the latest science in medicine, and having the opportunity to transform a person’s life every single day.

Q: Why did you decide to join Parsley Health?

After working in the integrative medicine space for 5 years, I was drawn to the Parsley Health business model that made this type of medicine more accessible to the masses. Normally the type of care we provide costs thousands of dollars for just one visit. It ‘s exciting to be apart of the next wave in medicine that addresses the whole person and is more affordable.

Q: What’s the best part of your job?

Listening to the stories of triumph and struggle from my patients and through that process finding the answers together to why they came to my office in the first place. The unfolding of that story is like peeling back the layers of an onion and getting to the core of their illness. It often takes time but seeing people come out on the other side as a healthier person never gets old.

Q: What areas of interest do you have as a physician?

Some of my personal passions include thyroid and adrenal health, biohacking for longevity, cardiovascular disease, metabolic health, stress hormones, cognitive health, genetic and epigenetic medicine, nutrition, sleep disturbances, hormonal health and fertility , digestive health, and autoimmune disease .

Q: What is your experience of the current healthcare SYSTEM and Where would you like to see changes?

Our current healthcare system is excellent at addressing acute illness. However, most of us are suffering from at least 1 chronic disease. I’m excited to see this shift in healthcare that is focused more on outcomes from a preventative standpoint rather than after someone has contracted a condition.

Q: How would you describe your relationship with your patients?

My connection with my patients is that it is a partnership, not a dictatorship. I believe we each know our bodies the best. My role is to listen to what they have learned from their bodies and combine that with my expertise to design a personalized plan for their optimal health.

Parsley Health combines cutting-edge testing with conventional and natural approaches. This is modern holistic medicine.

Q: What are three things you do every day that are non-negotiable?

Meditate for 1 minute. Make someone laugh out loud (even if it’s just me!). Move my body.

Q: If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

Hard question because travelling to new cities is one of my first loves. If I could live anywhere in the world I would say London. In the United States, I would say California.

Q: Last book you read?

The Gilded Years by Karin Tanabe.

Q: Favorite food?

Healthy—Sweet potatoes, avocado, arugula … I can’t decide! Indulgence: Chocolate chip cookies.

Q: Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Everything is figureoutable. Everything. —Marie Forleo
